Borussia Dortmund defeated AC Milan 3-1 on Tuesday to guarantee their place in the round of 16 of the Champions League. AC Milan faces immediate elimination.

With one game remaining, Dortmund advanced to the next round thanks to goals from English teenagers Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Karim Adeyemi in the second half and an early penalty from Marco Reus.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-292872″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-ind-vs-aus-t20i-following-his-match-winning-knock-against-india-glenn-maxwell-join.png” alt=”theindiaprint.com ind vs aus t20i following his match winning knock against india glenn maxwell join” width=”1559″ height=”1039″ title=”UEFA Champions League: Borussia Dortmund defeats AC Milan 3-1 to advance to the round of 16 6″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-ind-vs-aus-t20i-following-his-match-winning-knock-against-india-glenn-maxwell-join.png 750w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-ind-vs-aus-t20i-following-his-match-winning-knock-against-india-glenn-maxwell-join-150×100.png 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1559px) 100vw, 1559px” />

Despite receiving criticism for their performance at home, Dortmund has won three consecutive games in the tournament and is now leading Group F with 10 points, defeating an injured and out-of-form Milan squad.

In their penultimate group game next month, a draw against Paris Saint-Germain in Germany will be sufficient for Edin Terzic’s club to secure first place and a more favorable draw in the round of sixteen.

It was a fantastic evening, according to Mats Hummels. “When the team plays well, it’s easier for the individual.”

“We want to take the lead now and stay away from the really talented teams.”

Milan made it to the semi-finals the previous season, but they are now bottom of the group with five points and will need to work hard to move up. Olivier Giroud, the returning striker, failed to score an early penalty for Milan.

But because of the close group and Newcastle United’s draw against Paris Saint-Germain, the hosts had a chance, and Samuel Chukwueze gave them an equalizer in the 37th minute.

If Milan wins against Newcastle and the French champions lose at Dortmund, they will advance to the knockout stages, currently two points behind second-place PSG.

“At Newcastle, we’ll give it our all to try and win the game. We have a two to three percent chance of qualifying, Yacine Adli, a frustrated Milan midfielder, said.

“We’ll exert every effort and hope for a favorable outcome for Dortmund.”

PUNISH DORTMUND MILAN

The game started frantically, and Milan might have taken the lead very quickly after Chukwueze and Olivier Giroud missed a flashing low cross.

After Nico Schlotterbeck awkwardly handled a Chukwueze effort in the seventh minute, France striker Giroud subsequently squandered the ideal opportunity to give Milan the lead in the penalty spot.

In the tenth minute, Reus further chastised the hosts by teaching Giroud how to accept a spot-kick after Davide Calabria took Bynoe-Gittens down.

Recently, Milan has had trouble scoring goals; they were hitting a yellow wall until Chukwueze performed a little magic down the right wing, cut inside, and fired a finish past Gregor Kobel.

Chukwueze became the second Nigerian to score for Milan since Taribo West in 2000 with his first goal after joining from Villarreal.

In stoppage time in the first half, Calabria headed Christian Pulisic’s floating cross agonizingly past the goal’s face, missing a fantastic opportunity to take the lead.

Milan pushed, but without their star winger Leao, they lacked cutting edge. In the 59th minute, after Milack Thiaw suffered another setback with a hamstring injury, Bynoe-Gittens scored his first Champions League goal with a clever flick from Marcel Sabitzer, taking the wind out of their sails.

After ten minutes, Adeyemi ensured that Dortmund would advance with his first goal of the campaign. He cut inside Calabria and sent a rocket that Mike Maignan attempted to stop, but it was just barely able to cross the line.

With five minutes left, Milan’s scoreless player Luka Jovic then struck the post with a header, and seconds after, Niclas Fuellkrug struck the bar with a strong effort.

And that was it for Milan, who will now need to find their scoring touch again and hope that Dortmund will do them a favor so they can advance to the next round alongside the Bundesliga team.
