“We have Viratball”: Gavaskar perfectly countered England’s Bazball with a Kohli hit

Baseball has completely changed the landscape of Test cricket since its launch in 2022. It has given the game’s conventional framework a new perspective. The term “Baseball,” which was created by an ESPN writer, is still unclear, although it was named after Brendon McCullum’s enduring moniker, which he adopted after becoming the helm of the England team in May 2022. Baseball is just a way of thinking about cricket that emphasizes aggression in both batting and fielding. Additionally, the strategy has paid off handsomely for England domestically. However, Indian veteran Sunil Gavaskar believes that India has “Viratball” as the ideal response to Bazball as Ben Stokes and his team prepare for the five-match Test series in India, which is expected to be their hardest test to yet.

India and England will play a five-match series that begins in Hyderabad on January 25. India, who are currently ranked second in the points standings after a 1-0 victory in the West Indies and a 1-1 draw in South Africa, will be playing in their third assignment of the current WTC cycle. Additionally, this series will be their first red-ball match since the fifth Test match, which was postponed in 2022 and ended in a 2-2 tie for England. After two historic victories, India had already grabbed a startling 2-1 lead in 2021.

With an outstanding performance against the Proteas, where he scored 172 runs in four innings, including a fifty, Virat Kohli will be a guy to look out for in the match. In addition, Kohli loves to fight the England attack; in 28 encounters, he has accumulated 1991 runs, the second-highest total he has made in Tests against a single opponent.

In an interview with Star Sports before to the series, Gavaskar emphasized the former India captain’s conversion rate in the format and said that the home side had “Viratball” to counter England’s Bazball.

Indeed, conversion is defined as possessing more hundreds than fifty. Since Kohli has a comparable number of hundreds and fifties, his conversion rate is high. His mobility seems fine, batting the way he has been. We have Viratball to counter Baseball with his current form, remarked Gavaskar.

Gavaskar said that he is interested in seeing how England’s recent changes to the Test format perform against Indian spinners, particularly Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who have combined for 500 wickets in 49 Tests.

In the past one to two years, England has changed their strategy for playing Test cricket. Batters have an aggressive stance, looking to assault. In any case, all they want to do is play aggressive cricket. It would be intriguing to see if this strategy is effective against India’s spinners, Gavaskar said.
